The university I attend has a mascot named Tom. He is a tiger, a brilliant tiger. You can ask him questions on the schools website twenty-four hours a day, and like all brilliant tigers, he responds to you within one to two seconds. He always makes an appearance at our football games. They drive him up in a shiny metal cage with bars on either side, like a circus wagon. He just hangs out really, waiting to get back to the zoo. When he leaves the zoo, to be transported to wherever brilliant tigers go, there is a convoy of about three cars, including the one thats tows his cage. When they have him in tow, the wagon stays open. The tiger can be seen riding at speeds up to sixty-five miles per hour around the 240 loop. Just as plain as day, nothing to shield him from a breeze or flying debris. The drivers have flashing blue lights and the spotlight within the cage is on high so that you can't miss the sixty mile per hour tiger. I don't know if I am the only one, but I seem to see this convoy more than I should. I saw it today driving down a rural, two-lane road just outside of Memphis. I felt sorry for the poor tiger, he was crouched in the corner of the cold, friction-less cage, at the mercy of the truck that pulled him.
that's kinda sad really...
